Turn Your ZipIt Into An iTunes Remote

Bookmark on del.icio.us or Furl

No matter what type of hardware device Linux ends up on, somebody, somewhere hacks it.

The ZipIt — a small handheld instant messaging device that runs Linux — has been hacked into a remote for the Apple iTunes software. According to this article on MAKE: Blog, this is a client / server application with a small remote control program that runs on the Zipit and a server application that runs on a Mac.

It seems like all of these unique hardware devices all end up running Linux and get hacked so they can be used in totally different ways than was originally intended. What will be next — a hacked ZipIt that will replace the 5 different remotes for my Television setup?
