According to this article on InformationWeek, PalmSource announced this week that not only did they sign a deal with a “tier 1″ handset vendor, but they are also planning to move the Palm platform to Linux.

During a teleconference to announce quarterly results, CEO Patrick McVeigh announced that PalmSource is moving quickly to transition the Palm Platform to Linux. The reasons given for switching to Linux are cost savings and the ease of customization for the handset vendors.
