How To Run Windows XP and Linux On Your Mac

The OnMac.net Wiki has an article on how to triple boot your Intel based Apple Mac with Mac OS X, Windows XP, and Linux. Since the release of Boot Camp by Apple — which makes it possible to run Windows XP on Intel Based Macs — it seemed inevitable that someone would figure out a way to be able to install Linux along with OS X and Windows XP. And now it’s possible.

While this process is definitley not for the technically faint of heart, the basic idea is to use the Windows XP Bootloader to Chainload the Lilo Bootloader which will then boot Linux. Basically, the process involves first installing OS X on your new Mac. With OS X installed and running, you will need to download the public beta of Boot Camp from Apple and install it. But, you will only use Boot Camp to create the driver disk for Windows. After installing Boot Camp, you will run the Boot Camp Assistant, but only to create the Windows XP Driver Disk — not to partition your hard drive!. Next, you will need to use the diskutil program that comes with OS X to partition your hard drive for the Windows XP and Linux Installs. At this point, you will be ready to install Windows XP by booting from your Windows XP Install CD. Complete the installation of Windows XP by booting into Windows XP and installing the drivers from the CD created by Boot Camp.

The last step is to install Linux by using any Live Linux CD to boot into Linux, then format your Linux partition and then proceed with a normal Linux install to the formatted partition.
