Gentoo Founder Leaves Microsoft

ZDNet UK is reporting that Gentoo Linux Founder Daniel Robbins has left his position in the Linux and Open Source Software Lab at Microsoft. Robbins had only been with Microsoft for eight months in an education role within the company.

This always struck me as a strange move for someone that was so intimately involved with Linux. Having Gentoo Linux, currently one of the more popular and innovative Linux distributions, it must have been difficult for Robbins to adapt to the culture at Microsoft. I can’t imagine that Microsoft as a whole is very accepting of anything open source and Linux related, especially withing their own company!

The next challenge for Robbins will be his new position as Chief Technical Officer for ABC Coding Solutions, a software company that provides products and consulting services for the health industry.

Gentoo Linux developers have stated that the distribution is unaffected by this news since Robbins has had no involvement with the direction of the distribution since he left to take the job at Microsoft.
